TFS Stars 2, 2 Pro, 3 and 4: choose floor space, inner and pole set

The redesigned Stars 2 Pro lists a 220 × 135 × 105 cm inner, matching the dimensions listed for Stars 2. The redesign extends the earlier Pro inner to 220 cm; it does not make the current Pro longer than Stars 2. Compare the Pro for its DAC NSL 9.6 mm poles, enclosed fabric-and-mesh inner, four vents and taped seams. Stars 3 and Stars 4 offer larger published floors at higher listed weights.

Stars 2 versus Stars 2 Pro

The base model lists 7001 aluminium 8.5 mm poles, a 10D breathable nylon-and-mesh inner wall and two vents. The Pro table specifies DAC NSL 9.6 mm poles, a 20D breathable nylon-and-mesh wall and four vents. Its description explicitly says the tent is seam taped. Both floor tables state 20D nylon PU and 8000 mm.

The current Stars 2 Pro selector offers Pine Green 15D or Brown 15D and three groundsheet choices: none, 70D full coverage or 20D full coverage. It no longer offers a TFS-versus-DAC pole choice; the current pole specification is DAC NSL 9.6 mm. The description states approximately 2.2 kg including DAC pegs, while the table still says 2110 g. Until these figures and their included items are reconciled, do not quote a precise weight difference from Stars 2.

What changed in the redesigned Stars 2 Pro?

The current listing describes a longer 220 cm inner, revised rainfly fabric, DAC NSL poles increased from 8.5 to 9.6 mm, dual attachment points along the pole sleeves and added vestibule webbing tabs. These are published design changes, not a verified wind-speed or snow-load rating.

The base tent does not include a groundsheet. A 20D or 70D full-coverage groundsheet can be selected at extra cost. The mesh gear hammock and trekking pole support kit are optional Stars 2 Pro add-on accessories, sold only with a compatible tent. Trekking poles are not included. The support kit is an optional reinforcement for the dedicated-pole tent, not its primary pitching system. Check the support-system guide before ordering.

The listed repair kit contains one spare DAC pole section, two guylines and four zipper pulls. The packing image also shows a repair tube. Confirm the supplied kit and selected accessories before comparing total carry weight.

Match a group to pad width

Stars 3's 175 cm stated width leaves 22 cm beyond three example 51 cm pads, but is 17 cm narrower than three 64 cm pads. Stars 4's 220 cm width leaves 16 cm beyond four 51 cm pads and is 36 cm too narrow for four 64 cm pads placed side by side. These calculations assume a useful full width and exclude wall clearance; they are screening arithmetic, not a fit certification.

For two people with wide pads and equipment inside, Stars 3 can be worth the listed 855 g increase over Stars 2. For four, Stars 4's extra length and width are the relevant starting point. The fit guide explains why thick mattresses and sloped walls still require checking.

Optional parts and fabric differences

Stars 2 lists a 186 g optional winter lining and 220 g groundsheet. Adding both to 1915 g gives 2321 g by calculation. Stars 3's 256 g lining and 355 g groundsheet bring its stated 2770 g to 3381 g if both are carried. Verify the selected bundle rather than adding a part twice.

Stars 4 lists a 20D PU/silicone fly with a 2000 mm rating and 5000 mm floor; Stars 2 and 3 list 5000 mm flies and 8000 mm floors. The purple Stars 4 has a different inner-wall fabric and a 55 g higher listed weight. Colour is therefore not purely cosmetic for that version.

Watchtower offers another large-floor option at 225 × 200 cm, but its component sum is 5010 g and it is labelled four-season. Compare its structure in the weather-use guide, not as a simple substitute for a lighter Stars group tent.
