The standard Lanshan 1 and Lanshan 2 use double-wall construction, so their inner tents help separate occupants from condensation on the outer fly. The weights shown are manufacturer-listed minimum weights. They are not complete packed or carried weights. Add stakes, guylines, stuff sacks, repair materials, optional footprints, seam-sealing materials or service, and trekking poles where applicable.

The standard Lanshan 1 and Lanshan 2 pages identify updated 2026 versions. Current Pro listings include 20D SilPoly 2026 versions, while some configurations may be identified as 2025 SilNylon versions. Confirm the selected material and configuration before ordering.

Why Does Condensation Happen?

Condensation is normal in tents. It occurs when moisture in warm air reaches a cooler surface and changes back into liquid water. In a shelter, that cooler surface is often the inside of the rainfly or the inside of a single-wall canopy.

Humidity

High outdoor humidity reduces the amount of moisture the air can hold before condensation forms. This is why condensation is often more noticeable during humid nights, near lakes and rivers, or after rainfall.

Humidity can also remain close to the ground in valleys, hollows, and areas with dense vegetation. A tent pitched in a damp depression may experience more condensation than the same tent pitched on a slightly raised, ventilated site.

A tent cannot remove moisture from the surrounding air. Ventilation helps exchange humid interior air with drier outside air, but the result depends on the weather.

Temperature differences

Condensation becomes more likely when the tent canopy cools significantly overnight. Clear skies can allow the fabric to lose heat quickly, making the canopy colder than the air inside the shelter.

The greater the temperature difference between the warm interior air and the cool fabric, the greater the chance of moisture forming.

This is why condensation may appear even when there is no rain. Wet fabric inside the tent does not automatically indicate a leak.

Breathing

Every occupant releases moisture while sleeping. A solo hiker produces less moisture than two people sharing a Lanshan 2, but breathing can still contribute significantly during a cold, calm night.

Wet clothing, damp sleeping bags, cooking, and drying gear inside the shelter add further moisture. Keeping wet equipment in the vestibule rather than beside sleeping gear can reduce the amount of moisture released into the sleeping area.

Wet ground

Damp soil, wet grass, nearby water, and saturated vegetation can release moisture into the air around the shelter. Water may also collect beneath a tent if it is pitched in a depression.

When possible, choose ground that is:

  • Slightly raised
  • Well drained
  • Away from standing water
  • Not surrounded by dense wet vegetation
  • Open enough to allow airflow

Campsite selection cannot eliminate condensation, but it can reduce the conditions that make it worse.

Why Double-Wall Lanshan Models Help

The Lanshan 1 and Lanshan 2 use a separate inner tent and outer rainfly.

The inner tent does not stop condensation from forming on the fly. Instead, it creates distance between the occupant and the wet outer fabric. This reduces the chance that a sleeping bag or clothing will directly touch condensation.

Lanshan 1

The Lanshan 1 is a one-person double-wall trekking-pole tent with a listed minimum weight of 740 g. It can be configured with a three-season mesh inner or a more enclosed solid-fabric inner.

Condensation trade-offs

In a single-wall shelter, condensation forms on the inside surface of the main canopy. The occupant is therefore closer to the moisture than in a double-wall tent.

If a sleeping bag, jacket, or backpack touches the canopy, it may become damp. This can be especially noticeable in humid, calm, or cold conditions.

The Lanshan 2 Pro includes solid-fabric condensation guards around the head and foot areas. These may reduce contact in those specific locations, but they do not prevent condensation across the rest of the canopy.

Ventilation

Keep vents open whenever weather conditions allow. Avoid placing clothing, backpacks, or sleeping equipment over ventilation openings.

How to Reduce Condensation

Maximize airflow

The most effective general method is to increase air exchange.

Before going to sleep:

  • Open available vents.
  • Keep wet clothing outside the sleeping area.
  • Leave appropriate gaps for airflow.
  • Avoid covering vents with gear.
  • Pitch the tent with adequate tension.
  • Open a door partially when weather permits.

Do not assume that closing every opening keeps the tent drier. It may keep rain out, but it also traps moisture from breathing and wet equipment.

In windy weather, you may need to reduce the opening to protect against drafts and rain. Ventilation is a balance between airflow and weather protection.

Choose the campsite carefully

A campsite can have a major effect on overnight condensation.

Prefer an area with:

  • Natural drainage
  • Light airflow

Avoid the lowest point of a valley, dense wet grass, and areas immediately beside streams or lakes when alternatives are available.

Lanshan in Heavy Rain

Correct pitching

A waterproof shelter begins with a correct pitch. The corners should be positioned evenly, the trekking pole should be set to the recommended height, and the fabric should be tensioned without excessive force.

For the Lanshan models, the recommended trekking-pole length is approximately 120–125 cm.

The Lanshan 1 and Lanshan 1 Pro use one trekking pole. The Lanshan 2 and Lanshan 2 Pro use two.

Check that:

  • The ridgeline is aligned correctly.
  • The corners form the intended shape.
  • The fly is not sagging onto the inner tent.
  • The floor is not folded under the canopy.
  • Guylines are attached and tensioned where necessary.

Tension

SilNylon can loosen when wet. If the fabric becomes slack during rain, adjust the tension gradually.

Do not over-tension the shelter in an attempt to remove every wrinkle. Excessive force can place unnecessary stress on zippers, hooks, webbing, and reinforced points.

SilPoly generally absorbs less water and is less prone to wet-weather sagging than SilNylon. However, the pitch still needs to be checked after setup and during changing conditions.

Doors and ventilation

Seam sealing where required

The Lanshan 1 Pro and Lanshan 2 Pro require seam sealing before use. Apply a suitable silicone-based seam sealer or select the manufacturer’s seam-sealing service.

Complete the process before a long trip and inspect:

  • Ridgeline seams

Lanshan in Strong Wind

Orientation

Which Lanshan Is Best for Wet and Humid Conditions?

For most wet or humid conditions, choose the Lanshan 1 for solo use or the Lanshan 2 for two people.

Their double-wall construction keeps occupants separated from condensation on the outer fly. The factory-taped seams also reduce preparation before use.

Choose the mesh inner when airflow and insect protection are priorities. Consider the solid inner when cold drafts and exposure are more important, while remembering that reduced airflow can increase condensation risk.
