Spring Camping near Sydney: Putty Beach or Euroka?

Spring Camping near Sydney: Putty Beach or Euroka?
October 3, 2026

For spring tent camping near Sydney, Putty Beach and Euroka offer two useful basecamp options: stay near the coast at Bouddi National Park, or camp in the lower Blue Mountains near Glenbrook. Choose between them by checking access, water and the forecast, then buy a tent around how you will carry and pitch it.

These are campground stays with walking options nearby. You can leave your sleeping kit at camp while you head out for the day. That gives you more flexibility over tent weight than a trip where you carry every item between overnight camps.

Coast or lower mountains: what changes?

At Putty Beach, you can reach the campground on sealed roads in a 2WD vehicle. Its marked sites are for tents, with toilets and town water available. Most sites allow a larger tent or two small tents, while sites 13 and 18 are limited to one small tent. Check the site description before choosing your footprint; a tent's sleeping capacity does not tell you its complete pitching area. See the official Putty Beach visitor information for access and site details.

Euroka is a tent-only campground in the Glenbrook area, with a 5–15 metre walk from parking to the camping areas. Access is by an unsealed road suitable for 2WD vehicles, but the Glenbrook Causeway may close after heavy rain. Bring drinking and cooking water: the campground tank is unsuitable for drinking. There is no mobile coverage at camp, so organise your arrival and download useful information beforehand. Check the Euroka visitor page, including access hours and current alerts.

Build a kit for the actual campground

October and November are spring; December brings summer. Elevation still matters. Katoomba's historical mean minimum is 7.8°C in October, compared with 11.8°C in December, according to Bureau of Meteorology climate statistics. Those figures describe an upper-mountains station, not Euroka's lower-mountains campsite. Use the forecast for your chosen area and dates when selecting a sleeping bag, mat and clothing.

For either basecamp, start with a sleeping system that suits the expected night, then add a head torch, rainwear, water containers and a practical cooking arrangement. Putty Beach prohibits wood fires. At Euroka, check the current site rules and fire restrictions before packing cooking equipment. Reserve your campsite before making firm plans, and keep a copy of the booking and access information available offline.

A groundsheet can protect the tent floor from abrasion, but choose it to fit the tent floor rather than extending beyond it. For a short carry from the car, you may prefer the convenience of extra floor protection. Check what is actually included with your selected tent configuration before buying a separate sheet.

Choose your tent around its support system

The Lanshan 1 is a double-wall, trekking-pole-supported option for one person. It uses one compatible 120–125 cm pole. If you already walk with a suitable pole, that support arrangement may fit your kit well. If you are driving to camp without walking poles, include the required support in your packing plan. The product offers mesh and solid inner choices, plus an optional footprint selection.

The Taiji 1 uses a dedicated frame. It is worth considering if you prefer carrying the tent's own pole system and separating your day-walk equipment from your campsite setup. Freestanding construction still calls for appropriate pegs and guying. At these basecamps, compare setup, usable room and your complete packed kit rather than choosing solely by a headline minimum weight.

Questions before you buy

Do I need a solid inner for Euroka?

Choose from the expected conditions and your comfort preferences. Mesh favours airflow; a solid inner reduces draughts. The words “Blue Mountains” alone are not enough to make that choice.

Can I take the same tent to both campgrounds?

Potentially, provided its full pitch fits the site and your complete kit suits the forecast. Practise pitching before departure, including tensioning and guying.

For your next step, choose your campground and dates, then compare the Lanshan 1's pole-supported arrangement with the Taiji 1's dedicated frame. Confirm the inner, support and footprint contents for the configuration you intend to order.
